Weeks in 2003 are sold out. November 2004 is partially sold out, so book early! The Royal Amazon Lodge is Brazil's first peacock bass fly fishing lodge and is best suited for fly fishing
due to its clear waters. There is a high percentage of sight casting. Many 20-pound-plus peacocks are landed, with 15-plus pounders landed daily. Experienced fly fishermen
usually land from 70 to 120 peacocks per day for two persons to a boat. Conventional tackle is permitted only with single barbless hooks. The guides paddle the boats instead of using
electric motors while flyfishing. The lodge is remote, 240 miles north of Manaus, and it is 100 river miles to any habitation. Exotic animals and birds are seen daily.
The best water conditions here are from early November through early March. The all-new lodge opened in December 2002 and features five individual air-conditioned bungalow cottages for ten
guests. The lodge also has satellite TV, limited open bar, hearty meals and daily laundry service. A plane is at the lodge when guests are present in case of any medical emergency. Larry Schoenborn
supplies all flies and includes a first evening seminar on hosted trips.
