Golden Dorado La Zona
Location: Uruguay River, Argentina Type: Lodge
Ever wondered what lies beyond the Amazon jungles? For intrepid
anglers, the wilds of northern Argentina are the chomping grounds of the golden dorado. Ferocious strikes, explosive leaps and
relentless line-stripping runs make the dorado one of South America's most challenging freshwater gamefish. Located on the
Uruguay River in Argentina, the La Zona tailwater has produced some of the largest dorado ever recorded. The government just
recently awarded exclusive rights to fish this trophy section fishery in the exchange for continuous management and conservation studies.
You'll fish from specially designed skiffs, with wide platforms that allow unobstructed casting from both the bow and stern. In
addition to fly fishing, lure angling is permitted using barbless hooks. You will also find large sardinatas, lachas and chafalotes --
all excellent fighters. Los Tres Sietes lodge sits admidst a meadow
surrounded by eucalyptus trees. The rooms are modest but comfortable, and the large veranda is perfect for evening
get-togethers. The pool is a welcome refresher during mid-day breaks. Julieta is a trained chef whose gourmet meals
are superb. Alfredo is always at the ready with that next appetizer, beer or glass of fine Argentine wine.
