Healthy Peacock Survived Torn Gill

In our travels we come across some unusual sights. This10-pound peacock bass caught on my recent trip to Brazil's Unini River had its torn gill raker (now healed) protruding from the gill flap. It obviously had survived quite well since the initial accident and had recovered nicely from an unknown ordeal. Peacock with torn gill

This proves that peacock bass are very hardy indeed and may surprise many anglers with their resilience. Biologists in Florida have told me many similar stories of healthy largemouth found during electro-shock surveys surviving quite well with totally healed gills ripped out of their gill plates.
