While reeling in my line and just when I thought I had a calming minute to soak in the dreamlike
reality that I was on the Amazon River, I was startled by the shrilling "zzzzzzzzzzzz" of my dad's reel. Instantaneously a thunderous peacock bass jolted up and came crashing down with a
huge splash. Our Brazilian guide Agnaldo yelled "Opa!
 Tucanare Grande!" I looked over to
witness dad's rod bent like I'd never seen before! Positioning himself in the boat for a better angle, dad stood up and began his fearsome battle...Two seconds later another giant
peacock pounced on Agnaldo's line and whipped across the water. Not wanting to miss out on the action, I readied my line for another cast. Just before I could cast it amongst the battling peacocks, dad
shouted "holy cow." I quickly turned as dad's peacock caught him off balance and my father (all 6'-8" 250 lbs.) came crashing down like a tree being yanked from its roots.
