We should be receiving some reports very soon. I do understand from one of our members that the water level in the Amazon crested about 10 days ago and is slowly going down. I know also that one of our outfitters has a full group in camp this week in the Amazon's far southern, Madeira watershed fishery (first of the "season"). So we can expect reports from there in a week or so. Any others with any knowledge of conditions on any peacock waters, please report. :)

From the reports that I have seen, the tributaries off the Madeira River are some 3 to 4 feet below the treeline now and becoming more difficult to move about. A few lagoons are very shallow and some areas may be fishable only for another week or two. Check out our weather link for a 10-day forecast at Barcellos or Santa Isabel on the Rio Negro or Borba or Manicore on the Rio Madeira. They are at: http://www.peacockbassassociation.com/html/weather.html
:)

We just returned from a week aboard the Amazon Queen II, fishing the Rio Negro from just north of Barcelos all the way up to the rocks by St. Isabel.

The weather was varied, one day we had a soaking rain which raised the rivers slightly, two days were clear and very hot (109F +), the remaining days were comfortable.

Needless to say the fishing was tough but we had numerous seasoned Peacock Bass Anglers with us. We were able to compile a respectable big fish count for the water conditions. Total was 1 23lbr, 2 21lbrs, 2 20lbrs and numerous 15lbrs - 19lbrs.

Best lures for the high water conditions were the 6.5 Highroller Riproller in a Clown pattern and the Peacock Minnow in the Peacock Candy color.
