Backing for Reels

Hello All: Last January, as a green rookie, I fished with Don Cutter's crew on the Unini and had a blast - really got hooked like the rest of you. Am heading back to the Unini in late Dec for 2 weeks and, this time, will take my own "kit" which will include 2 Shimano Curado reels which I intend to spool with 65 lb Power Pro and also a Shimano Stradic 4000FH spinning reel spooled with 25 lb Power pro. But, since I fished with Don's equipment last trip and am unsure of what type and kind of backing to put on these reels, I thought it prudent to ask experienced forum members ("old soldiers and old pros") for recomendations on what backing to use??
Would appreciate any and all recommendations/suggestions.
Many thanks!

Bill,

I don't use backing on my baitcasting reels since it adds an additional knot into the overall system. Tie the braid line directly to the spool and then place a small 6-inch long or so strip of duct tape (cut to 3/4-inch wide) on top of it and make sure that the strip of tape is long enough to wrap over the knot and back over itself. There should then be no slippage of line then, and you'll have just one line on the spool (which you may need sometime). Good Luck,

Thank you. I will try this during my trip this Dec/Jan on the Unini.
