| i'm heading to brazil in the middle of december for a week of fishing. this will be my third trip. on my first trip i used a bait caster most of the time and on my last trip this past january i used my 8 and 9 wt fly rod most of the time. the conditions were lousy this past year as most of you know, but i cought a good number of fish in circumstances that were tough particularly for fly fishing. that said, i'm off again. this time 3 of my fly fishing buddies are making the trip with me. their first. the good news is that we have some control over where we fish, provided of course that the outfitter has access. while perhaps not a rooky to the amazon, i am hardly a seasoned veteran either. hence, i am looking for recommendations on rivers that may be good for fly fishing in general, and in mid december in particular. i do recognise that weather conditions are impossible to predict, but if i have a few rivers to choose from, i can narrow the possibilities. |

| I would try the Agua Boa, Royal Amazon Lodge for fly-fishing peacocks. This lodge is fly-fishing only. I fished there many times while it was under contral of Dr. Jon Wilt and was able to use baitcasters. Lots and lots of fish and big fish! I stopped at the new Royal Amazon Lodge in route to the Itapara and found it to be very modern, quite possible the finest in the Amazon. I have talked to many of the fly-fishermen who fished the Agua Boa and all had a great experience. |

Neal,
In my humble opinion, I would say the best rivers for fly fishing would be the Xeriuini and the Tapera for quantities and the Unini for size.
Good luck,
