Been asked by a few regarding the tackle used for our monster Lau Lau trip to Suriname so here goes. I used a 5ft 9in 2 piece Shimano Trevala XXH spinning rod with a Daiwa 5500 Opus spinning reel. The Opus is a baitrunner type reel and was perfect. My other rod was an Okuma 2 piece 6ft Andros Jigging rod with a Fin-Nor Marquesa MA30T reel. The reel holds lots of line and has a 40lbs max drag of which the Lau Lau had no problem pulling. For line I used 150lbs PowerPro with a 3-4ft 300lbs Kevlar leader. For hooks I used a single 10/0 Gamakatsu Octopus SE 4X Strong hook rigged to a 4/0 Owner ST-66 treble. I used 8oz to 12oz egg sinkers of which i put a screw eye into one side and attached to a sinker slider just in case of snags so I would not lose the entire rig. Lau Lau should definately be on your do list! Cool
