Just back from a trip on the Rio Negro where fishing was good. Our group of 14 aboard the Capt. Peacock caught over 1,124 peacock bass with 51 over 10 pounds. Four over 20 pounds were taken and you can read more detail on my 20-pounder and see the photo of the beautiful fish in my online log posted on the PBA website at http://www.peacockbassassociation.com/html/larry_peacock_bass_log.html . Jigs, flies, minnowbaits and topwater plugs (several "teeners" hooked) all worked and the two largest fish taken by woman angler Lisa O'Grady on trolled jigs were 21 and 24.5 pounds! More jig fish taken than on any other lure. Waters should be getting more productive each week now for awhile.
See my Forum posting on Rio Negro water levels in that specific category. |

Very nice fish! How does the Poe Timber Turbine compare to the other popular prop baits? |

It is a slightly fatter lure body but fishes easy like the Pavon Prop. I like the 6 1/2 inch body with two trebles, but I do change them out with the Daiichi 7X extra strong 3/0 (on rear) and 4/0 (at front) red trebles. (Factory made with 4X strong which is not bad.) Great tail-spinning action for the right sound. Love the "Fire Tiger" #111 finish for most sunny conditions in the Amazon. Caught a beautiful 17# on a Fire Tiger Pavon Prop two weeks ago as well. My other teeners were taken on jigs. |
