I've been using a Quantum PT Smoke 150HPT for the chopper type baits. The 34" recovery and good line capacity make it ideal. Pluses are the very light weight for throwing baits all day and a really good drag. It's been on three trips, thousands of casts and hundreds of fish so I know it works well.

I've also used Abu Garcia's STX's, Shimano Curado's and/or Daiwa Zillion for throwing plugs and spooks. All work well.

I used Lews Tournament Baitcast reels in 7:1:1 ratio on a peacock bass trip in January and they worked flawlessly. They stood up to the beating of tons of casts, big baits, working baits fast Fast and FASTER, and great drag on handling those monsters. The gear ratio is very important as well as a stout drag. Lews are a good choice for your trip, have a great time and good luck to you.

I just got a new Revo Beast 7.1:1, 8 bearings, 29 in. retrieve per turn and 9.35 oz. Haven't used it yet but it looks like it should do great on peacocks. Line capacity is 180 yds of 12 lb. mono which is more than enough for 99.9% of peacock situations.

Are any of the PBA members familar with the Shiamno Metanium 100XG? I just ordered one for one of my Argentina friends. Looks like a great reel. Also for those concerned, I am doing fine! Still on medical leave hopefully returning to work at the beginning of September. Got the ok to go on my Alaska trip in September. Thanks to all the great wishes and prayers! They really worked!! Cool
