Went to La Zona April 11 to 14 for my 8th consecutive year. Another great trip in very bad weather conditions. Our group of 4 landed 10 golden dorado between 30-40lbs, 11 between 40-50lbs and 1 over 50lbs. Majority were done trolling deep diving Mag 30 rapalas in firetiger and Yo-Zuri hydro magnums in similar coloration. Weather was very windy and cold with lots of rain. Cool

Bob,

Congrats on a great trip. Again refresh my memory on the hours each day and no. of days you were allowed/restricted to fish? Also, how many total fish each day (average) were caught? Thanks.

Larry: Fishing is allowed only on Friday through Monday for a total of 4 days. The sessions are morning from about 8am to noon then back again around 4pm till dark. You come back in for lunch which is more of a meal-filet etc.. This is the law so you cannot fish all day long as I would like. As far a numbers go, we only target really monster dorado. With the water being really high and the temps really cold this trip I would say each guy got about 10 to 15 dorado per day, but if you catch 40% of the strikes you would be very lucky. You can catch more dorado fishing near the dam and when the water is lower and temps are hot.
Good luck Bob Cool

Hey Bob:

I just watched a River Monsters episode where Jeremy Wade was over dramatizing as usual and attributing people getting various pieces of their extremities bit off to Dorados (and yes, even Mr. Johnson). It finished up with him fishing at La Zona and catching a decent size fish. Pretty stupid episode overall, but I did think of you when I saw him fishing by the dam.

Yes, Mr. Wade tries to keep everyone's attention by making these fish seem as people killers! No chance golden dorado have attacked a person. You possibly could get bite by one while it is flopping around in the boat as norm with most fish, but attacking folks, no chance! I however really like his show. ONe of my friends had the opportunity to talk with him for an extensive amount of time at O'Hare Airport and said he was very nice and interested in our dorado trips which got him to La Zona. Believe he has a good arapaima show coming on soon. Cool
