Art,

I like the Mexican restaurant in the International Mall. Can't remember its name.

I saw on another thread you talking about getting the tambaqui ribs. Which restaurant did you end up going to? Would like to try those next time I go down.

We went to Barbacoa at the Manauara Mall.

The dish was ‚Äúcostela de Tambaqui assada‚Ä?.

However, in Manaus I learned that there is another restaurant called Panela Cheia where we find a better Tambaqui na Brasa.

I've been to Manaus a number of times on business and there are some good restaurants. My favorite is Choupana on Rua Recife in the Adrianopolis section of Manaus. It is "local" food, not Brasilian beef. Good fish, shrimp, etc. with local flavor. Don't get me wrong, I also like the Churascurias (barbecue restaurants) but they aren't typical of the Amazon - they are imported from the south of Brasil. Buffalo is a very good one if you want a Churascuria. Another that is fun is El Toro Loco. It has a wide variety of food and the folks there are friendly. It is big and a bit "touristy" but close to the Tropical Hotel and dependably good.
I have also had Tambaqui ribs and loved them. I ate them at Larangina (little orange) which is on the Ponto Negro beach area close to the Tropical. They have an open air stage and a good show of "native" dancing, too. It was under reconstruction for the World Cup a year ago but I am guessing it is finished now.
