So I have read that people are only replacing top hooks on lures ... is that because it will trow off weight, or is it just not needed/necessary for rear hooks? I'd prefer to change them all out, but I do not want to unbalance the lures ... I have ordered 7X hooks. Thank you!

Art,

I had to learn about this stuff last year, so I am eager to help!

All of the original hooks and split rings need to be replaced with stronger ones suitable for peacocks. Nowadays, some lures made specifically for peacocks do come with the appropriate hardware.

Regarding Spooks, only use two hooks, one in the front and one in rear (skip the middle hook eyelet). The front hook can be one size larger than the rear. Make sure it "sits in the water" and floats properly. You don't want too heavy of hooks or it won't work well. You can't universally say, "use a 2/0 on the front and a 1/0 on the back" because hook sizing varies so much between companies.

Do the same with jerkbaits, only two hooks, larger one in front.

Art,

Check out this link to a past post: http://www.peacockbassassociation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=375&highlight=hook+replace and check my comments on hook replacement. It hasn't changed much.

Also, do a search for words: "hook replace" and click "both terms", then "search". There are several valid comments from a lot of PBA members.
