Hey guys,
I recently signed up for Global Rescue (GR) medical evacuation coverage and feel that it is such an important service that it deserves the attention of all traveling anglers. While the Peacock Bass Association has set up a partnership with PBA Supporting Member Global Rescue, you don’t have to be a PBA member to take advantage of it. A GR membership offers the following benefits:
1.) GR coverage can save your life or health by getting you to an appropriate medical facility fast, or in the case of a security or non-medical evacuation, out of a remote environment.
2.) GR commitment to members is from point of injury or illness. Member does not have to be hospitalized or in major urban area. Field rescue is provided if necessary.
3.) GR response to an emergency begins the moment a call comes in, as HQ is staffed 24/7 by critical care paramedics who know how to begin giving life-saving advice immediately. They also provide advisory services through medical experts at Johns Hopkins.
4.) GR coverage plugs an important hole in one’s “travel insurance” coverage. Few travelers realize a medical jet costs $7,000 an hour, and that is the only way home if you are too ill or injured to walk up to an airline counter. The level of medical evacuation offered by GR is not covered by travel insurance or medical insurance policies (they typically limit their exposure by refusing to transport or only going to a local facility they choose).
5.) GR coverage provides transport to the hospital of one’s choice anywhere in the world, not to the “nearest appropriate” medical facility.
6.) GR keeps family informed in case of emergency.
7.) GR dispatches medical and security teams composed of critical care paramedics and special operations veterans to assist and oversee care and case management before and during transport, if appropriate.
I know of several individuals who have needed such a service; sometimes they had it, and sometimes they wished they did! I have had a medical evacuation service annual membership for over 6 years and fortunately never had to use it, but I once slipped stepping onto a wet deck of a small boat while transferring back to the Barcelos Brazil airport at the end of a trip. I landed on my back, feet skyward. Those of you who know me know I’m a fairly big guy and this could have been serious. Luckily, my vertebrae missed the hard edge of the gunwale and my back was only sore and bruised.
Accidents or medical emergencies can happen anywhere, and having assurance that you can get to quality medical treatment quickly, efficiently and without huge expenses is important. That’s why I recommend you review Global Rescue’s programs. The price varies from just $119 for 7-day to $329 for annual coverage.
Now, I have the peace of mind on all my international trips, and so do a lot of our members with a GR membership. If you want to know more, just go to http://www.globalrescue.com/pba/ for “no obligation” information and quotes. You can also phone Global Rescue for more information at 1-617-507-1050 or toll free at 1-800-381-9754 (Mention Promo code: "PBA" for our partnership rates). |

Several of our PBA Supporting Member Outfitters, Operations and Agencies offering trips to South and Central America (and elsewhere in the world) have joined with PBA to help all avid peacock bass anglers have an opportunity to join Global Rescue by offering memberships themselves. Agua Boa Amazon Lodge is including the GR service as part of each client's trip package. Other PBA Supporting Members offering the service as an option to clients include the following: Acute Angling, Amazon Fishing Adventures, B&B World Wide Fishing Adventures, Fishin' Expeditions, Fishing With Larry, High Roller Adventures, International Angling, Menno Travel Service, Wilderness Adventures.
Clients and in most cases, even non-clients can sign up for the GR service on the websites of all of the above outfitters and agents. For the contact information to each of those Supporting Members, check out our Directory at http://www.peacockbassassociation.com/html/contact_dir_.html .
Several more PBA Supporting Members are in the process of signing up as partners of GR and they too will be offering this important service option. We'll update this list as more options exist for all avid peacock bass fishermen visiting remote locales.
Global Rescue representative Josh Hendrickson has assured me that they have established assets (float and wheel plane companies, medical services, etc) throughout the Amazon Basin so that anyone traveling to the most remote areas there will be able to receive quick response and appropriate care. PBA is proud to have helped in setting up this overall Basin plan. |
