Thought I would start a topic on what if any ways our outfitters could improve their operations when it comes to dining. I seem to have always been fortunate on my trips and the food has been very appetizing. What areas do you think could be improved or changed to accommodate the American fisherman during breakfast, lunch and dinner? Usually the first thing I tell the camp manager is they cannot serve enough fish for me. Fish is my favorite meat and I can eat it everyday when I am there. Love the little fish finger appetizers when you return from a long day of fishing. On my first trip down we had French Fries at every meal, thought I would have got tired of them but no I actually looked forward to them after the first couple days. All in all I think they do a pretty darn good job considering the logistics they have to deal with.

i agree, for the most part the food is pretty good. like yourself bobby, i could do with more fish at dinner. at the risk of sounding too critical, deli sandwiches day after day for lunch gets real old. but in fairness, other than the occaisional fish on an open fire, which i really look forward to, i have few other suggestions for lunch.
as you said, given the logistics, it is amazing that they do as well as they do with the food. and also, i like the fact that most outfitters give us a a good sampling of local fare. |

Bobby, A great question!
Most operations have plenty of rice and pasta. Unfortunately I don't care for either. Most of the operators I have visited though do offer potatoes once in a while. Some even go out of their way to have extra potatoes on some weeks thankfully. Fritas (fried), puree or mixtado (mashed) are fine with me (with apologies to the Portuguese for my misspellings). Love fish, gator tail and other meats too. Often the hot "appetizer" that some offer is better than the main course. So load up on it - bird in the hand you know. Some operators fix hambuger patties, chicken meat or other at breakfast for you to make a sandwich of - when you pack your own. You can also use some of the left over eggs (fried or scrambled) in a sandwich when you make your own in the morning. Be sure to place all of the above in the iced down cooler! Two things that I hate to be without are ice and Guarana in the cooler.
Overall though, they mostly do a good job with what they have to work with. I don't go down there to eat, so I just do so to keep my energy up. Unlike a lot of Amazon anglers, I usually lose a few pounds when I go down, which isn't too bad either.
And as you said, no one will complain (about food or anything else) if the fishing is good. |
