Just returned from a great trip at PBA supporting member, David Fields Trophy Bass Lodge http://www.fishinexpeditions.com/ at Lake Huites Mexico. I was fortunate to travel with my good friends and PBA members Bobby Foster and Capt. James Henderson along with Ron Peebles and Jimmy Wolfe. I met all of these great guys fishing for Peacock Bass. Trophy Bass Lodge has the feel of a private Hacienda on your own private lake. The staff is friendly, efficient and always tries to please. The food is first class and to call Freddie just a cook would be an insult. He is truly a Chef! The Lake is a beautiful clear green color set amongst shear rock walls and cactus filled mountains. The fishing is a mix of large sunken humps, deep rock points and large shallow flats. Fish are heard and seen busting tilapia minnows all day. At the time we fished, the water was a little high and falling. The normal, phenomenal top water fishing Lake Huites is famous for had not yet started. Top producing lures included; Rat-L-Traps in chrome blue/back, Storm Wild Eye’s white with Spike-it chartreuse on the head and tail, Golden Mullet and Fire Tiger, Zoom flukes fished drop shot, smaller bass colored crank baits and Stanley Big Shot spinner baits in chartreuse and white. I soon learned the definition of a bad day of fishing at Huites is better than any good day of fishing anywhere else. Everyone in my group caught their personal best bass and also had fish bust 30# braided line as if it were nothing. I had fish of ten and eight and more sixes than I can count; many fish from one-and-a-half to four pounds along with three and four pound Tilapia. On the last evening of our trip Bobby and I in one hour caught 25 fish a piece from two to six pounds. That is fun… I don't care who you are!!!! I urge all PBA and non-PBA members that want a first class trip at a reasonible price to give Dave a call! Thanks David for a great trip and I can't wait to get back to set the hook on another powerful Lake Huites bass.

Greg:

Glad to hear it was so good. I'm headed there myself in early February. Did you fly through Mexico City? Did you have to clear customs there? Any issue, if you know, with carrying on pack rods coming or going?

Sorry for all the questions, but I just like to be prepared.

Just wanted to second everything Greg had to say about our fishing trip. Absolutely beautiful mountains and lake. The food was to die for and everything was clean as a whistle. Rick, everything went smooth at Mexico City until the return trip. For some unknown reason when me and Jimmy W. went to check in the gates they would not let us carry our reels on. We had to return to the ticket booths and check our carry on bags at an extra cost of $16 per bag. We carried them on in Houston and from Mexico City to Los Mochis and back to Mexico City on the return. Why it ended there we could not get them to explain. We did not bring any rods so I can't help you with that question. Hope you have a great trip.

Rick,

I flew from Phoenix to Hermisillo MX and then Los Mochis. Great flights, no problems and I carried my reels on. There is absolutely no reason to carry rods as the ones at the camp are fine. The reels were fine too if you choose to take neither. Give me a call and I will be glad to help you any way I can.

Thanks everyone for your help and guidance.

I was still curious if I will need to clear customs in Mexico City and recheck my bag to Los Mochis(?).

Greg - the fishing must have taken a toll. You look like you aged a bit from one photo to the other...

Rick, I checked my bag all the way to Los Mochis when I checked in here at Houston. The second picture is not Greg, it is my old mug and I am a bit older than my handsome young friend Greg. Good luck,

Bobby

Thanks a bunch Bobby. I'm going to be meeting up with my friend coming in from Chicago and I was trying to figure on where to meet so knowing I don't have to clear customs helps.

Jay, it caught us by surprise also. This young lady who checked my bags definitely had a personality flaw to be dealing with the public. When we returned to the gate after checking the reels she saw I still had my carry on bag but did not know I had put my reels in my partners bag to be checked. She got in my face real quick and called for security, you know the ones with the guns, but to her disappointment my reels were checked. Like I would be that stupid to try and get the reels through again. Oh well it turned out alright just never know what to expect. Bobby Foster

Jay - Just got my initial order of the Tilapia Pepper Sticks I have to tell you that is one terrific looking color. I expect we'll do real well with it... so much so I intend to pick up another couple bags.
