Now that I'm rested up some, here is the report. We ended up fishing south of Manaus on the Matipuri (sp) which was totally new to me. Catching fish was not a problem as we totalled somewhere around 2400 fish. The first few days they would bite anything.......but the rains came and kind of cooled down the topwater bite later in the week. You could throw a jig anywhere you wanted and catch fish.......the Paca's were schooling everywhere. Admittedly, the big fish were either on vacation or hiding from us as the big fish for the week was 15#. The water had gotten so low that many of the lagoons were getting too shallow to fish. Many of the fish I caught were coming out of a foot or less of water. There were tons of fish caught off main river points and the cuts into the lagoons.
It was funny how the fish were still trying to stay in the peacock bushes (as Rick Grover calls them) even though they may not have 8" of water in them. Throw a lure next to them and the water would froth from the fish shooting out of them to get it.
It was an interesting trip, but boy do I miss the Unini.........

| One interesting thing did happen ..........I caught three doubles during the trip. Not super large ones, but doubles none the less. The Paca's were like Piranhas.......... :D |

Hey Dink,
Sounds like you had an awesome trip on smaller fish than the Unini offers.
Three doubles is remarkable. Any pics available ? Send me a private email if you'd like, and we'll post them. Thanks.
We are still having LOTS of requests for the 5.50" HighRoller and the 4.25"
Pavon Props when the surface bite is on with the smaller peacocks. The Florida anglers are buying them like crazy, too.
I've heard many good things about that whole area South of Manaus for LARGE numbers of smaller peacocks, and hope to fish it one day. Like you, c'mon Unini !!! |
