Friend, Steve Ryan fished La Zona, Argentina the week of October 22-25. Two days before leaving for the trip, he heard that the water was very high and fishing was very slow. Upon arrival, he found the water to be about 20-25 feet above normal water levels and the water was the color of light chocolate milk and was well into the shoreline trees. :cry:
Steve said they did catch a few smaller dorados on deep diving cranks casting into the shoots at the dam. However, it was very dangerous fishing with the amount of water they were discharging. Matter of fact, both boats hit the dam piling causing damage to the boats. :cry:
His group caught a couple dozen dorados from 20-30, a few over 30lbs, and 1 or 2 in the 40lbs range. But, nothing approaching 50lbs.
Said the water appeared to have been dropping the last 2 days and was likely at 8 meters. 8)
Have another friend going in 2 weeks. Hopefully the water levels continue to drop.

| Wow, that must be a sight to see all that water coming out of that Dam. Too bad fishing was tough. That is one of the World's best fisheries for sure. Rick G. |

Rick: STeve told me that all the doors on the dam were open. He thought they were going over a few times when Enzo got too close to the doors. Enzo really hit the boat hard and did substantial damage to the fiberglass.
However, with the high water and all, his group still did manage to catch a few decent dorados. Also caught 1 cat near the dam on a crank.
Steve said they saw numerous large dorados way below the dam, but Hector said they were spawning and not feeding. Said he thought many of the fish they caught were caught a few times. Many dorados in the 4-5lbs range if you can believe it. Don't think our group caught 1 under 20lbs.
Guess there has been lots of rain in Southern Brazil which is the reason for the high water
Said the 4 guys in the group had to share the upstair bedrooms. Don't really know why?
If you ever wanted to get back in there and are having trouble getting permits, get in contact with me. Might be able to steer you in the right direction in getting permits. 8)

| to last that long. They must be putting multiple Boats in the "Zone" to have that many people at the camp. Is Louis Brown in there now? Time to go is Dead middle of summer when the water is lowest. Just like the jungle. January-March is big fish time. Rick G. |

Rick: As far as I know, Luis Brown does not have any permits as of yet. However, according to my Brazilian contact, Untamed Angling is not selling any permits for the mid season in 08 as yet due to the permit contract running out.
Recieved word that they will soon be offering bird hunting trips out of the La Zona lodge.
You right about the time to go, but practically impossible to get permits then. Again if you ever want to go back send me a personal message and I can give you my contact in Brazil who gets most of the permits.
