I'm looking at two different fall trips: October/November on the Matupiri/Igapo Acu in the south or late November on the Rio Xeriuini in the north. My impression is the southern fishery is more of a numbers game while there's more likelyhood of bigger fish in the north. Also, is one area riskier than the other as far as weather during those times? Any advice from members?

Rick,
I've been to both many times. The Southern watersheds are full of Peacocks for the early part of the season Aug - Nov/Dec and the more Northern Rio Xeriuini with Wellington Melo at his lodges will blow you away from Nov - February. Great places, both of them. You'll no doubt be on the new 'Amazon Angel 2' on the Matupiri wher you'll have a ball. The Igapu Açu is slightly dingy but blackwater, literally teaming with fish to 22# and is a great topwater river.
The Xeriuini is the most beautiful and pictoresque blackwater river also packed with huge numbers that can be enticed with big topwaters and spooks and bigtime with jigs. Take your pick. You'll be spoilt for choice!!
Who is your outfitter? Acute Angling? Email me with any questions.
